Hey all... is anyone else in this boat? I have a correspondence course to complete (ideally before Korea), but actually DOING it is killing me. I have zero motivation, and have been seriously seriously slacking. I just finished the first assignment (oops).

GAH! I've never had this problem before... I think some of it is where I'm physically located - this town is zapping my ambition, motivation and competitive instincts. I feel it slowly leeching out of me.

Any ideas? Support? Suggestions?

Hey meag! I started correspondence courses in 2003, and am extremely lazy with them. If I had been on the ball, I would have finished them already. I haven't picked up a coursebook since last May, so I know how it can get (but then again, I have till 2008 to finish!). I like the material, but I just don't want to do all the reading and quizzes and stuff like that.

Ironically, I was so excited when I signed up for the courses, that I finished the 1st course in 2 weeks. Haven't finished another since! But I've sunk it so much money into it already that I know I have to complete it...

Hang in there, finish it, then go to Korea. Once you're on the plane, you'll forget about it! Smile

Man. It just got worse.

Ends up what I submitted yesterday is insufficient - I need to somehow double the content of my paper, and stick to 15 pages. I'm already at the 15 page mark. Gah!

Also ends up that when they list components as assignments separately, they really mean "together" and I should assume that.

Damnit. My weekend sucks already.

Meagicano, I empathise with you. A friend of mine got so tired of taking his MBA courses with his less than friendly workgroup, he finished out his courseload through the correspondence section. He did everything through sending papers via email.

I helped him.

Here are some hints:

1. Treat it like a normal school course. When you get homework, do it. No matter how hard it seems to start. Self discipline is the key to finishing something like this, because you won't get any support from a teacher or classmates normally.

2. Get yourself a moral support partner, and if they can put up with what comes with it, keep them informed, use them to support you when you feel disinclined to start. When I was a kid, I didn't want to do my homework, but cheerleading from my parents got me through it.

3. If you need help in writing down what you know is good content, but can't say it the way they like it, ELECT SOMEONE AS YOUR EDITOR, AND LISTEN TO THAT EDITOR. If you were in a normal course, you'd have someone read your stuff, and this is no different. Just make sure your editor actually knows his or her stuff. Intelligent girlfriends or boyfriends are good for that. Editors are good at Moral Supporters. I must say that I was not qualified to help him with his cost accounting or advanced math, but then, Editors are supposed to prune content, not create it.

I can tell you that my friend knew his material, but cutting out half the less useful words, C material becomes A material, especially if you find more content to replace the filler.

Thanks for the hints, tortuga.

I just gave myself a major kick in the ass and booked the final exam. Now I actually HAVE to do the work. Hahahahaha. It's slightly extreme, but I leave in 18 days and this "putting it off" is getting ridiculous.
