Help! I live on an island and have no access to English books. I use the internet for everything especially for my work. However, I need CURRENT books, magazines, journals, etc. Are there any websites that have online books that are current and on the shelves at bookstores? The online libraries I find are all "older" materials. Is there such a thing as new books being available online? Or perhaps there isn't so that you have to buy the actual books.

My work depends on these current materials. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are HOME.

Lots of magazine and journal websites let you read stories for free, but you have to pay to subscribe to them. Some libraries have online books, but as you said, many are old. What type of materials do you need access to?

Try a website called http://www.netlibrary.com
It has recent books, such as "The Great Fire", titles from the Today Show Book Club list, etc. There are also audiobooks and a reference center. I understand your longing for up-to-date materials, as I was a recent inhabitant of a Bahamian island myself and a victim of spotty Internet connections. Good luck!

Thanks for your help on this. I'll check out the sites and see what I find. So far, I have been able to manage with using just online sources.
