Anyone seen this book Delaying the Real World?

The Ten Pilliars is pretty interesting.. I wish I would've got this book when I finished skool.

I've just ordered this book.

Though technically I'm a 30something, so they might not send it to me.

I just figure, that I had a mortgage at 20 and was tied down through my twenties, so I never got to be a work dodger.

Plus, my partner now is 21 so I can say it's for him.

Anyway... I'll let you know what it's like if it arrives.

Cheers

Dante

I read that book! It's what first presented me with the idea of taking an extended world travel after graduating. I had never thought "hey, I am tied down by literally nothing after I get my Bachelor's.... so this must be the time!" before. So now I'm saving up.

That book also has a lot of great ideas for things to do post-graduation and pre-career/babies/spouses.

I'd also like to throw in a vote for reading "The Quarterlife's Companion." and "The Rough Guide to First Timer's Around The World."

I like the book in concept, but...

Doesn't it seem a little funny that the author keeps telling people that they'll do just fine when they decide to get a career, yet her only career move thus far seems to be writing a book expousing unemployment.

Still, I hope she's correct. I spent the last two years doing exactly what she suggests! Big Grin

I read this book... it was pretty inspiring... however, since I am from Canada I did find that a lot of it is geared to Americans... which I guess if you are American is good... but I found it a little frustrating... I guess I'll have to look for someone to write a Canadian version Wink.... However, that said, the possibilities are endless on what you can do...

I read the book, and it is interesting enough. Geared towards Americans, but still some good stuff in there.

The thing I don't like is the idea that going travelling is only about 'delaying' the real world. It would be nice if a book presented travelling, and long term travel, as a real alternative to the 9 to 5, and then gives ideas how you can do it.

people who writes books about not being employed like mentioned above is pathetic in my opinion...they are profiting off telling people not to get jobs and whatever the book is about...how about giving the book away for free and sticking to your mantra...thanks...

Josh is off to Europe soon, but in the meantime read about his past trips around the world I'm 24, why isn't 100 countries and 7 continents realistic in a lifetime...40 and 5 down...

There are so many ways to live a life. I don't want to get a house and a car. But then again, I don't want an ipod or a cell phone and I use one of those funky lomo type cameras when I travel. There is no right or wrong. There is just the moment...that said, I DO all I can to be healthy, I save as much as possible for my senior years, and most of all, I offer help to family, friends, strangers (as much as I can) because you never know when you will need help (karma, y'all). I also love it when people question my choices because it makes my choices seem that more edgy and edgy is glamourous!

This book isn't actually about not being employed... in fact, they do talk about employment, just not "the real world" sort of employment! More like things you WANT to do for fun, but maybe can make some money at too.

I've read the book SEVERAL times over (and own it!) and find it really inspiring. I've had it since first year university, and I'm actually graduating now (and delaying the real world for at least a little while).

And yeah, I do find it frustrating that the large majority of the websites & hard info are all American geared (Canadian as well), but still inspiring to me at least.
