Do you already have an ISIC card? That was the thing that saved me the most money. I saved enough money with the discount I got from Eagle Creek just buying my backpack to get back the price of the card. I went to England and probably tripled the value of the card in savings in the six weeks I was there. Food, tourist stuff, online discounts, even student discounts at movie theaters. Definitely worth it.

I signed up for a HI (Hostelling International) membership as I went--getting a stamp and paying 2 extra pounds at each hostel. That might be worth buying ahead of time if you think you're going to be staying at HI (used to be YHA) hostels.

I agree with brown eyes, the ISIC card is a good way to go. Go to travel cuts and look for it there, it costs about 17dollars canadian and can save you a bunch of money on plane tickets, movies, museums, food..everything really.

I've heard mixed reviews about the HI card, it's worth it if your planning on staying in their hostels, but if you dont want to have to look around for a HI hostel everytime, then don't bother.
