i'll be finishing my last class in library school on may 24, and will be missing my graduation in early june as i'll be away (i will be in england at that point). i have been in school nearly my whole life--college, an mfa, and then an mls (with only as much as 8 months in between). any ideas for a celebration or ceremony i could have to celebrate my end of formal education?

I missed my graduation in 2003 too. That was my University degree graduation i missed. I was in Lake George NY state, having the best time however so it didn't bother me. The feeling of knowing that i had passed with a good grade was more than enough. All those years of studying. We had a massive piss-up and I suggest you find yourself a nice pub and proceed to get pissed too.
Well done on finishing lib school anyway. Would you suggest library work, how do you get into that line of work?

if you are interested in librarianship, you should really work in a library. i love it, but it's made for you or not.

How do you mean its made for you or not? Any examples of why one might love it or hate it?

Rafo, I have always worked in libraries and they are a place I always feel good in. You just should get a job if you're really interested. Prepared to be grossly underpaid. If you want to be a corporate librarian, it's more a research position and un-librarian like in many ways, but the money is wonderful. My coworker started at 80k at her first corporate library job our of library school.

My suggestion, go to a beach and camp out for a couple days with your closest.
