Hi. I was wondering if anyone would advise me on traveling in Europe. I have about 12 days and am considering using the Eurail pass to travel in France, Spain, Italy, and Greece. What do you recommend? Would I be any better flying to the U.K. with my time span? any advice is greatly appreciated!

Twelve days is a pretty short timespan. I don't know if a Eurail pass would be worthwhile if the goal is to rush from place to place.

Consider spending more time in one area and seeing that area well.

Take all 12 days and pick the one country from your list that you want to see the most. Then stay there. You'll save a ton of $ on the train tickets and get much more for your money. You'll get to really connect a bit more to the place. Doing 4 countries in 12 days you might as well stay home and watch travel videos. It's cheaper and you get about as much out of it.

Because the Curmudgeon hasn't appeard yet: travel less, see more. Pick a country, or two if they're close together, and stick with them.

With 12 days I'd pick the city you want to see the most and stay there. 2 cities at most.

I'll second the recommendation for 2 countries at most. And don't waste the money on the rail pass for only 12 days. Point-to-point rail tickets (and also point-to-point bus tickets) are usually a LOT cheaper. My reommendation would be to do something like just France and Spain or just France and Italy, or even just one country. Depending on where you're flying into, it'd be really easy in these countries to do a little loop of travel in 12 days. All of the countries you mentioned are pretty large...it'd be very easy to travel all 12 days in just one of them.

I totally agree. Keep it to two places at most (all the places you mentioned have enough to keep you busy for any length of time). It is usually less expensive to buy train tickets there within the same country than to invest in a eurorail pass. Nowadays, there are a bunch of cheap flight options...try easy jet (www.easyjet.com), ryan air (www.ryanair.com), virgin express (www.virginexpress.com)...if you want to go country-to-country.

I'm not sure about the other budget airlines, but I think Ryanair has a policy allowing them to cancel flights with no obligation to you other than refunding your fare. I flew Ryanair once (Charleroi to Dublin roundtrip) and it was fine, but you may want to check the fine print on your ticket, especially if you only have twelve days.
