I currently live in Mill Valley and the community college around here, College of Marin, doesn’t seem to provide an outlet for studying abroad. I’ve researched a little and it seems like the easiest way to get to a school in a different country is through one here. You can do it on your own, I presume, without being a student at a university here, but it’s much more difficult. Or at least that’s what I’ve read. And being accepted at universities over there require a certain level of GPA which, unfortunately, I do not have, if only because I was home-schooled and let it get away from me for a long time, and am not currently in college. But that was a year ago when I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and was never encouraged to apply to universities, unfortunately.

Now, I think, I’m in the mindset to apply myself to college and classes and get a degree out of it (I’m thinking a degree in French or English-Lit). But the actual statistics of my record are working really hard against me. I just wanted to know if it was possible to, say, attend College of Marin for two years and get my associates in whatever degree I choose, and then use those grades to apply to getting into a university in, let’s say, Scotland and getting my Bachelor’s over there. Is that possible?

Really, besides what I’m asking here, I would just like to be able to talk with anyone who knows enough about studying abroad and the inner-workings, and perhaps about my own specific situation, in that I’m not in a university. Thanks for any help that comes my way!

Theoretically you can apply to any university in any country as long as you have the GPA and they are willing to help you get a visa if needed. The idea is that most universities aren't free so that's what you should try to figure out: how to pay for you studies. And that's where the GPA comes in handy b/c most offer scholarships based on that and/or based on your parents' income level.

I don't think I've been much of a help but i know the info as I researched it myself a while back. However I chose to finish school in my country and i attended an MBA as well (all classes in English)
