I will be staying in Galway for a few days, and I was wondering if a day hiking in Connemara would be possible. If so, would it be best to rent a car, or is there a bus that would get me there?

Hi,
In this part of Ireland, it would be best to rent a car.
Hiking is a great idea- just keep an eye on the weather as this is primarily bog land and can be swampy.

Some suggestions:
Connemara National Park and Diamond Hill

Diamond Hill is the lowest of the hills in the area, set apart from the taller Twelve Bens. It is a good introduction to the ecology and wildlife in the area, and is the easiest walk.
Recommended map: Heritage Service's Connemara National Park.

Doughruagh & Kylemore Abbey
Slightly harder as you get into the steep hills around Kylemore Abbey. Very scenic.

More strenuous and for which you should be more prepared:
Central Maumturks
The Twelve Bens - Glencoaghan Horseshoe
