Hello,

I´m new at this community and I´m very anxious to your answers. But in the following to me an my jounrey.

Next week I´m going to travel to Ireland. Me and a friend of mine want to recce the country by foot and backpacked . Cork is our starting point and we want to travel near the coastline towards Killarney. We want to sleep rough, that means in a tent, because our budget is very tight. Our intention is that we fly to Ireland without forward planning.

It would be brilliant, if someone had a few tips for us…

Below some questions or keypoints:

- Are there some tricks to pack the backpack?
- Which matters are essential?
- How can we protect ourselves against the (obligatory) rain best?
- Exempt from hiking … what is the cheapest way to drive? (to hitch-hike?)
- Which landcapes are worth seeing (in Cork and Kerry)
- We want to talk to the local inhabitants to improve our english skills and to get to know other people. Which themes are interesting? I heard there are some good jokes about the weather…!?
- How much money do we need for three weeks in Ireland? (food, every third day a B&B, sometimes a busticket etc.)
- What else is important?

I thought it is an interesting and ative forum.
But now I know, that this fourm isn´t neither interesting or active nor helpful.

Unfortunately, you asked too many questions (many of which have already been answered in depth elsewhere in the forum) and the title for your post did not really match with the barrage of questions that you put forth. The multitude of mistakes in your post also made it difficult to read which may have turned some people off.

I would suggest you use the 'search' facility on bootsnall first, and complete some research so you are able to ask more direct and specific questions in future. This will ensure that people are able to respond in a helpful and timely manner!

All righty, I'm game.

1. Tricks to packing a back pack? Highly subjective, and changes from person to person. My preference. Pack light. How you pack is part of the learning experience of travel.

2.Essentials. Again highly subjective and changes with locations. One of each item(exept under wear) and some high quality(compact) rain wear should see you through. My packing covers days in boardshorts at the beach to torrential down pours, yet it fits in a medium size back pack.

3. Protection from the rain. Good rain wear is key. A couple years ago I bought a super light weight jacket and pair of pants that have a plastic inner layer from R.E.I. . I've only actually needed them three or four times, but they are still my favorite pieces of clothing I own. Camping in the rain is an art unto itself, and again, can only be mastered through experimentation. Do what works for you. If you find methods that work, by all means share them with us.

4. Hitch hiking is indeed the cheapest way to drive, it can also be the most exciting. Not for the shy or faint of heart.

5. Every where is worth seeing.

6. Don't worry, people will want to talk to you because you are traveling.

7. The more money the better, but go with what you have and make it work.

8. What else is important, hmmmm. A positive attitude and willingness to help others. Don't over plan your trip, and let it unfold as it may. Oh, and don't forget to have fun.
