So excited! Leaving for my first trip ever to Europe in 6 days!
We're ferrying to Dublin from Liverpool and I'm trying to figure out how to get to our hotel from the port and then back into Dublin to play... we're staying at the Marriott in Ashbourne (yay for rewards nights! Free hotel!) and I'm having trouble finding how we can get to and from there with public transit; I'd rather not spend the money for a taxi... I found nite service, but am not finding anything for daytime/midweek travel. It's a commuter town, there must be something! Thanks so much! Taking off on our dream Eurpoean honeymoon on 5/20/07! I should have started planning months ago! |

Don't get a taxi! They are crazy expensive here.
The Irish train/bis website is www.cie.ie On that it says there is a 45 minute bus to Ashbourne. Is the one you're trying to get to in Co. Meath? Not sure if there's another one. I've asked a friend who knows more about it, I'll let you know when/if she replies... Enjoy Ireland! EDIT: Just found out it should be around €10. A taxi would be waaay more. SECOND EDIT: Just found out Ashbourne is near enough to the airport and that a taxi should be around €15. The bus is from the city and it's €5 to get there so it's probably easier to get a taxi. Ahh I'm not doing too well here, maybe someone else should take this question. I only know Cork! |

there is a regular bus service (every 20 mins) from dublin (bus aras)to ashbourne - its not a great place to have as a base to be honest.
http://www.buseireann.ie/site/home/ has all the bus info you need |

Thanks so much!
I know it isn't the best spot, but it's free hotel nights, so that leaves the cash for fun stuff! LOL Is it not a great place as in 'be in your room before dark' or not a great place as in 'kind of out of the way'? Taking off on our dream Eurpoean honeymoon on 5/20/07! I should have started planning months ago! |

its perfectly safe, well as safe as anywhere else in the country. Its a very small town which because of its proximity to dublin and the airport has grown quite big residentially wise so unless you have an interest in appartment blocks or 3 bed semidetached houses full of first time buyers I don't think you will find much to entertain yourself outside of the hotel.
there is a good bit of history though in the surrounding area. You are not too far from the hill of tara, newgrange, the battle of the boyne site or even slane castle where they have a rock concert every year. You would need a car to get to these places though. Anyways enjoy |

Thanks again for the help, Phil!
We'll be travelling into Dublin most days... we're only there for 2 days in between Liverpool and Paris (can you tell we're Beatles geeks? LOL) Hubby is mostly concerned about his Guinness intake, so we should be OK! Taking off on our dream Eurpoean honeymoon on 5/20/07! I should have started planning months ago! |
