Well... I'm Irish but I've never been to Ireland. So finally I am going and I will be there for 7 days. I'm on a tight budget, and was wondering if anyone had advice on places to stay and to get food. I've looked at a lot of self catering accommodations and I am leaning towards that but I honestly don't have a clue. It will be myself and one other person, if you have any ideas I am willing to listen to them. Thank you so much!

7 days of eating is easily done. If you are on a budget the best thing I can suggest is eat as the natives do. Go to a grocery store and stock up. My personal favorite is Tesco. Just remember that Ireland is a much smaller place than the US and they have much less of a variety. I can't really help you out with places to stay, I just know don't get a hotel in Dublin City. Its a complete ripoff.
Hope you have a great time!

erm, welcome home I think!! Whats your budget exactly? You can get by on very little if you plan it right. There are plenty of hostels which cost less than 20 quid to stay per night - google paddywagon or just hostel ireland. Drinking is pretty pricey over here but there are ways and means to have a good time on a budget. If you are in dublin and its sunny and reasonably warm head for the pavillion in trinity college, you can bring your own beer and sit out on the cricket pitch and watch the sun set over dublin city centre - you will always get a big crowd as well when the weather is nice. Tesco is cheap for food - but its crap food. Superquinn is typically a couple of cents dearer per product but the food is so much nicer. lydl and aldi are cheaper again but the quality is crap also. After dublin you can get a return bus to galway for 16 euro, bring camping gear and find somewhere out the country to camp if you want to save more money - but there are plenty of hostels there aswell. Guinness is also pretty sweet over there, well worth the few sheckles. Oh and there is almost always a house party on somewhere!! My head still hurts from one saturday night...
well my budget is hard to say exactly because i will be in other areas as well (paris, amsterdam, and frankfurt) right now I'm looking at 4,000 to spend for whatever (flights are seperate) I'm going to be closest to Limerick and the Clare area, but I do plan on spending some time in Dublin. I like the idea of just hanging out and having fun! Thanks for the names of the stores to, thats great to know, and also the house parties. Thank you!

Whatever you do stay away from Limmerick and head for the Clare coast. Try Doolin, its a great little coastal village with three traditional pubs and one small grocery store, go figure:P its situated between the cliffs of Moher and the Burren and its also the closest drop off point to the Aran islands. Many travellers end up extending there stay there.
The Aille river hostel is the place to stay if you're in the area!
