I did Bunac and work in London for 6 months. Most people doing it were there for 406 months. I worked for International Students House as an event planner. But I met people who had gotten really kick ass internships at big firms as well as people who were babysitting, and those who were working at bars or waiting tables.

Bunac also does a pretty good job at finding jobs for people in the program.

I think that last comment was a bit misleading as BUNAC doesn't find jobs for you. they have job listings at their offices and they'll give you ideas but you're pretty much on your own for actually finding a placement. I've been in Edinburgh for the past 5 months and have had an office job which I got through a temp agency here for the entire time. the pay is rubbish but they're rather flexible with letting me have time off to travel around the country.

I haven't done the Work in Ireland programme (yet.. going there next month) but if you're interested in it, you might want to give them a call. I know they're not processing applications at the moment bc of the Irish government is reviewing the programme and probably will make changes in the application process.

I did BUNAC in the UK and Ireland. I agree with what Sweet wrote - BUNAC is only a support service, you are still responsible for organising your own job. I found this especially true in Ireland because the program is a lot smaller. For example, on my orientation in London there were about 12 people, in Dublin only 3.

In both countries I had live in pub jobs. I found a job really quickly in London, but it took a bit longer in Dublin. There were SO MANY job hunters in Dublin and no one was hiring. I eneded up working in a country pub.

I noticed that you said you're only planning to be away for 2 months? It seems like a short time to bother with BUNAC. It's also highly unlikely you'll break even - in general, doing a working holiday is a way to extend the time you're overseas, not to fund your holiday. It's not impossible, but if you're only going overseas for 2 months, you don't want to the focus to be working, do you?
