Can anyone tell me if there is a need for a phone adapter plug to accommodate connecting a US laptop into an Irish phone line? If so, where can they be purchased?
Thanks in advance. Pat |

Loads of information on phone plugs can be found here. It says that Ireland does use the standard RJ-11 plug, the same as the US, though I could have sworn the plugs in my house in Galway looked different...never used them, since we didn't have a landline there, though. Disable the "check for dial-tone" feature, and you'll stand a chance of connecting.
Note that the UK, including Northern Ireland, uses different plugs and you will need an adaptor there. All in all, though, its far more reliable to find a wireless network or high speed RJ-45 connection to hook up to, since those are international standards. |

Modem connections seem to be the same stateside as they are here. I never had a problem plugging my US-bought computers into the phone jacks here.
Ethernet is an international standard as well. Wireless broadband is really taking off here, so you mightn't even need a modem as long as you have wireless and network cards. -sean |
