Somewhere I read that there is a car rental insurance policy that one can buy that covers all car rentals that might be made in Ireland for a period of x months. This type of policy precludes the need to buy car rental insurance directly from the car rental agency at the time you rent. Does this policy sound familiar to anyone?

I seem to recall that you can buy the policy for a period of 3 or 6 months and it would cover a certain number of days during that period where the policy would be in effect when you were renting. It was not an individual policy that you bought with every instance of renting a car.

Thanks in advance.

My credit card offers free rental car insurance as long as I use the card for the rental. However, you might want to check because a lot of insurance companies are looking at the Irish road statistics and striking Ireland from their list of included countries.

These guys look like a 3rd party insurance company:

Let me know if you have any luck.

lightholder,

I found the site that I thought I remembered. It's a company called Insurance4carhire.

http://www.insurance4carhire.co.uk/index.asp?sessionID=...D=1&refID=100&pID=47

Here's a quote from their website ....

"Your car rental agreement normally includes cover for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft. However you are still liable for the Excess on CDW and Theft. When a rental car is damaged or stolen, the driver is asked to pay the first portion of the repair or replacement costs. This is known as the Excess.

Insurance4carhire covers you not only for the total amount of Excess for which you are liable if the car is damaged or stolen, but also for damage to the roof and undercarriage of the car, and windows and tyres."
