Has anyone here flown with Aer Lingus? They have some pretty good rates, but I was just wondering what the airline was like. Is is reliable? Clean?
Please let me know if you have any info about it.

Thanks!

Hi Ashley J,

Aer Lingus is a great airline. They are Ireland's national airline, and I have flown with them lots of times. They are most definitely not a 'budget' airline, and they are a big step up from Ryanair or EasyJet.

They often have 1 pound or 1 euro flights that you only have to pay taxes for, so when you get specials like that they are great value.

I would have no hesitation in flying with them!

Cheers
Kate

I second what whatkatydid said. I loved Aer Lingus! On both of my flights the planes were clean and the service was great. I plan to head back over that way again next year and will definitely be flying with them again. They have great low season fares, too, so if you can catch one of those deals it will really be worth your while. I flew from Chicago to Dublin last February for @$160 USD total. About $200 for the return trip in April. Dublin is also a great hub to catch cheap connecting flights to the rest of Europe from.

Keep in mind the Ryanair is trying to take over AerLingus and may do so in the near future. Click here for more... This also means the flights to the US. They may go downhill fast...

Aer lLingus is great but my problem wiht them is the carryon limit. It's only about 13lbs. I travel with just a carry on and it always hits the 25lb limit so tend to fly with airlines that allow up to 30 lbs of carry on.

^Interesting, 13 lbs is nothing. Frown

I was trying to find the carry'on measurement requirements, can you tell me?? Is the small luggage "roller" okay??...the one that everyone takes on US flights. Though Ill probably check my bag anyway, so I can bring my beauty products. Are Aer Lingus doing the "no liquids" thing, or is that just in the US??? Confused

There is a site that gives that information to you at http://www.thetravelinsider.info/ for most major US and International Carrier. I find that Continental is competitive in price has has a nice carryon limit.

Wow! I had no idea that they had that rule...I flew from dublin to CA with a carry on weighing much more than 13 lbs and had no problems...not worth the risk though.

Info on current security rules at UK airports can be found at the BAA site. They've been having problems with the site in the past few days as it is no more able to cope with traffic in times of fog than our airports are, but it seems ok at the moment Smile

I flew Aer Lingus back in 2003, and even with them somehow losing our luggage between Heathrow and Dublin I would fly with them again.
The luggage was returned to us about 24 hours after we arrived in Dublin.

We do jokingly refer to them as Aer Stinkus now, but as I said above I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again.

I was curious if they really had a 13lb. limit (not to doubt anyone but it was hard to believe) so I looked it up on the Aer Lingus website and sure enough its a 6 kg/13lb. limit. Crazy.

13pds should be enough... I always bring my small carry on with the basic essentials and check the rest, this way if it gets lost or misplaced I will have enough to get bye for a few days. I think more airlines should restrict carry ons to this weight limit as the overhead baggage storage situation is getting crazy crowded.

Nothing unique about Air Lingus there. A limit of 5 or 6 kgs for carry-on is very common on most European airlines - and good thing, too.

Otherwise, I second the Air Lingus recommendation. Great airline.

I flew Aer Lingus Glasgow>Dublin return and I wasn't impressed at all - both ways there were MAJOR delays and they didn't bother informing any of the passengers why this was or when we'd be departing, we were sitting there in the extremely cold airport...I was just annoyed because instead of being able to explore Dublin, I was sitting in the airport.

Also 13lbs is the carry on luggage, not the checked in luggage.

I flew Air Lingus Boston to Dublin two months ago and am taking it back to Boston tommorow. I dont fly much, so maybe it is just me, but I thought that it seemed a little odd that they only served drinks once, right after takeoff, during a seven hour flight. I got very dehydrated. Also my inflight entertainment thing was broken and the stewardess seemed really offended and annoyed/angry when I asked to be reseated to one that worked. I guess when you pay so much for a ticket you expect a little quality/things you pay for to work. I wasnt reseated until two thirds of the way through the flight and when I asked about the possibility of a free drink for having to stare at the back of a seat for four hours she raised her voice at me and caused a big scene. It was humiliating. The rest of the flight was pretty awckward. Also it got really hot in the middle of the flight and never cooled back down. But the plane did go from point A to point B.
