Holds PhD in Packing |
Hey all, I'm soon to be embarking on a life journey that will take me to all the important cities in rock 'n roll history. While there are many in the USA, and of course London, Ireland is no stranger to the rock scene. Are there any U2 or Thin Lizzy fans out there that can tell me of key places to visit, streets to walk down, or pubs to hang out?
Thanks! |

found that page - scroll down half way and it gives a small bit of info.. Although there is alot of ties with rock 'n roll and Dublin i wouldn't exactly know where to start. Just by walking around you can come across many famous statues etc.. Also the temple Abr area is very musical...But do a search on google maybe.. If you go further a field you can find some really enchanting pubs such as DeBarra's in Clonakilty West Cork.. Lots of famous people have played here.. and the walls are full of pictures and autographs.. You could also visit Rory Gallagher place in Cork.. Sorry i can;t be of more help.. |

Awesome article. Thanks! I gotta really go deep into U2's history and find some cool pubs and streets tied to them. But this article and the "Rock n’ Stroll Trail" is an amazing start.
(I didn't even realize Bob Geldoff was Irish...how embarrassing!) |

There are modern Irish rockers too!
The Frames (of which Glen Hansard was a winner of an Oscar for his song in the film Once that he also co-starred in), Damien Rice, Bell X1, etc & so on are all Irish artists who are starting to get really big. Check out their sounds, if not their histories. Roisin Dubh in Galway is well known for having great artists of both Irish & international acclaim play in its small venue. It's a fantastic pub, too. |

I'm not too hip to the modern Irish rock scene. But, how could I have forgotten Rory Gallagher?
Thanks for tips on the pubs. The Ire will be calling soon enough! |
