Hey all

What is the best way to get from Ireland to Wales? Would love to take a ferry, other question is does anyone know the hostel situation in wales? Am having a heck of time finding any decent listings.

i've taken the ferry and train from England to Ireland and back again... it's awesome and would defiantely recommend it. I took the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin... i think it was called the Swift or something to that effect!

Don't recall the name of the company, but you can get a ferry from Cork to Swansea. I did the Swansea-Cork trip a few years back, and it was an overnight ferry. Don't know the timing on the opposite journey, though.

Check out these two sites--

http://www.sailrail.co.uk/routes&fares.htm (where to book)

http://www.seat61.com/Ireland.htm (very detailed information)

*Allows you to go from Dublin-London (surely you can get off somewhere in Wales, Holyhead perhaps?) for 27 GBP

My suggestion is to go on the HSS from Dun Laoghaire, just a short DART ride away from Dublin. It gets you into Holyhead. The ride is just under 2 hours. On board are a couple of places to eat. Fast food and others.

Image of Ireland that most Americans have: everyones redheaded, everywheres a cute little village. everything is green and covered in clovers. and leprechauns run around freely chasing after thier lucky charms
