My partner and I will be visting Ireland for a week and are deciding on what to see. I read about Bru Na Boinne in 'Rick Steve's Ireland" and thought it sounded pretty amazing, but haven't found any reference to it on bootsnall.

So, is it worth the visit? I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

I have been to newgrange an it is an excellent site. Very interesting. the trip can be easily done in a day from dublin or as part of a trip on the way up to the north or donegal. The same county contains the hill of tara and slane castle which are also worth checking out...

Newgrange is awesome. There is a very nice visitor center that starts you off with a good overview, then folks are bussed to the site in small numbers so it never gets overcrowded. It's amazing to go into the actual chamber - they turn out the lights then slowly turn them on to simulate the winter solstice sun coming in the chamber. It raises the hairs on your arms. At least it did mine - and I have been twice!

You can do it either by car or on a relatively inexpensive bus tour from Dublin.

I went to Newgrange. It was fairly cool and all, but it took way too long to go out there, then wait at the unimpressive visitors center, then head back to Dublin. I left at 10:00 and got back at 5:00. Of those seven hours, I was at the site for around half an hour. If you have loads of time, it's a pretty cool place, but there are better ways to spend a day.

its a bit far for a day trip - would work much better to drop in on your way up north or north west. Glendalough is better for a day trip from dublin in terms of distance and the amount of stuff you can do in a couple of hours

I completely agree with Phil, I had a much better time in Glendalough.
