Anyone out there managed to make a mark in the area of niche travel writing?

I'm interested in sharing and learning from the experiences of others. Writers who have managed to get stuff published in respect of travel and:

Canal boating, kayaking, climbing, diving, sailing, hiking, exotic rugs, cookery classes of the world,

You get the idea - for those who have followed that old adage, "write about what you know."

And in case you're wondering, that blurry avatar is meant to be me feediving!

best regards

Oops, I meant, that's me freediving not fee diving, although I suppose once the copy was put together that was ultimately what I was doing!

I somehow fell into family travel writing, though I have no kids of my own yet. I actually love the work, I can angle it to mean anything from infants to grandparents, budget to luxury, non-traditional, adventure and beyond. But I really like the relationship aspect of this kind of writing. I find it very satisfying.

And because I write for family travel, it's easy to pitch parenting magazines as well as budget travel. Most families are always on a budget.

So I like to develop a niche within a niche. It keeps me diversified enough, but still enough of an 'expert' to position myself to new publications.

My Blog...
