Question:

Who retains the rights to stories printed on BootsNAll? I thought the writers did, but I'm not really sure?

I got a very exciting email from Oxford University Press Canada, indicating that they wanted to print one of my stories, and that someone else had probably already contacted either me or the owner of the rights. Since I hadn't received an email, is it possible that BootsNAll owns the rights? I'm really confused.

I'm hoping it was just a mistake on the publisher's part. Cause, as much as I absolutely love this site, it's really important for me to retain the rights to my stories, and I might have to pull them if they can be printed without my permission, or bought from BootsNAll (without me seeing any of the $).

Eek, I hope this doesn't come off as accusing or rude! I'm just thoroughly and completely confused. Excited and thrilled about being published, but confused!

Thanks,
Random

Hi everyone!

Time for apologies and thanks!

OK, kind of embarassed now that I've re-read my message. I'm an idiot, and I NEVER meant for my message to come across as so paranoid! If I could erase my post, I would...but I can't, so just ignore it, please! :-) I'm sorry about it... As I said before, I was just confused because I was told that the permissions department had already gotten permission to print/buy it, and BootsNAll is the only place that they could have found the story.

Chris, thanks for emailing me and letting me know that you haven't heard anything from Oxford University! I'm not surprised, of course.

And now for the thanks part: BootsNAll rocks, and if it hadn't been for you guys, Oxford University Press Canada would never have found my story. I owe a lot to this site! :-)

Anyway, I'll get the mystery sorted out sooner or later...I suspect someone just forgot to contact me and didn't realize it. And in the meantime, the book goes to the publisher's in two weeks!

Cheers,
Rando

Authors of BootsnAll articles always retain the right to sell or reprint their work.

Here's a link that will explain.
