Any ideas on where would be a good place to travel to as a 21 year old who wants to become a travel writer?!? I'm a junior in college, but I'm a little burned out and I want to go and explore. I'm already in Greece on a study abroad program, and I'm loving it! I plan on going back home to the states in July, work and save some money and then hop on the plane again and go.I'm thinking about Thailand, maybe even teach English. I'm open to any thoughts or suggestions. WRite BaCk!!!!! |

OK, I don't get paid to write about travel, but I do get paid to write so hopefully I can donate some useful advice.
I wouldn't worry about where you go at this point. Anywhere that floats your boat - Thailand has a lot to offer, so if you want to go there, just do it. Some writers seem to get by with deep knowledge of limited subject matter, others seem to do with thin knowledge of a diverse range of topics. If you're just thinking of getting into the field, just follow your heart because it's too early to pigeonhole what type of writer you want to end up as. The key will be to write up a storm no matter where you go. Find your voice. Improve your style. One thing about writing is that there are a lot more wanna-be writers out there than there are actual paying gigs. And when it comes to travel writing, there aren't that many totally unique experiences left out there that will blow minds on their own. So it's going to be your writing quality and style that makes or breaks you more than anything else. |
