Hey guys,

I'm wondering if any of you have come across personal travel websites that have catchy designs, great navigation, cool images or anything else that might have caught your attention.

One of my favourites is http://www.thirteenmonths.com for example.

I'm looking for unique designs built from scratch rather than sites that use templates (Wordpress, blogging sites etc) and I'm not too concerned about content - just looking for fab design/layout/navigation.

I'm planning on building a personal travel site soon and am looking for inspiration! I've built sites before but never an ongoing travel blog type site so I don't really know what's possible and what's not.

Thanks for your help!!
Kirsty

I agree. That's by far the best one I've seen.

This isn't exactly a travel blog, per se, but may give you some ideas:

I agree, thirteenmonths is nice and easy to move around, and to get back to where you started! One of the things that always confounds me about most blogs is the ability to start at the beginning of the trip and work forwards. I understand that the most recent post should be presented first, but I frequently have a hell of a time (and it very well could just be me) finding the first post and working my way through the rest chronologically.

Lon and Martha's 2001 trip remains the best overall site in my book http://www.thefickeadventure.com/WorldTrip/index.jsp

There are others that have slightly better photography, or more entertaining writing, or better hosting or design, and so on but their site is pretty good in all categories.

Thanks guys. That's funny, whereami, the Hotzone site is the one that I've based the drawings of what I want my layout to look like on. I think it's a stunning looking site and very well organised.

It´s not just you, Spiralout. I could never understand how I was supposed to read the blog as a story if I was constantly having to figure out how far to scroll down and then keep scrolling back up. Not everyone has time to check every day and read the updates as they appear!

So when I had my site designed, I specified that I wanted to be able to read my entries in order.
See my blog for what I ended up with.Travelpod.com does something similar, for those who want to go with a ready-made template.

Megan,

I have been reading your travelogue and enjoying it very much. That goes for Michael's photography as well. In fact, if I was thinking, I would have referenced it as one the most accessible blogs I've ever seen, not to mention the excellent writing.

I agree. Megan's blog rocks! I am grateful to BnA for providing blog templates, but I wish I could post the last one first and then have a list, like Megan does, of other entries people could read in date order. I'm going to pop over to the BnA blog thread and say so. Good job, Megan: great design, fine writing, and terrific pictures.

mmm.. Urban Lowdown isn't a blog per se, but I've worked extremely hard on it and would love some feedback.

Urban Lowdown on Phnom Penh, Cambodia
