In the southern highlands of Scotland - near where the A84 meets the A85 - someone painted large white letters on the rough stone wall of an underpass, "GO HOME ENGLISH SCUM". Obviously, the job cleaning the letters away wasn't done nearly well enough.

There's a cafe in Cambridge, MA that has latin poetry scrawled on the bathroom walls between the usual things you'll find in such places.

there is a great one in Manchester reading "M Khan is bent" no-one knows who M knahn is - but everytime they clean it off it is put back on there... anyone who goes up the M6 reads it. The graffiti is a bit of a landmark now Smile

You should come to where I'm from--The Bronx. The biggest graffiti crew that works out of there is Tat's Cru, they started out "bombing" (meaning, painting) subway cars and are now one of the biggest graffiti companies in the USA today, known worldwide.

There is a great mural of Big Punisher, (the infamous rapper) done by them on Intervale Street in the South Bronx.

Big Pun= Infamous? Actually, he kinda sucked. Then he died. That's what you get for being fat. I found a couple cool murals in my area that I like. One is of the famous Cuban revolutionary and my hero Che Guevara rendered in red and black on my school wall. Hmm...I wonder who did that one? Wink Also, there is a red fist on the wall in the cafeteria that magically reappears whenever the janitors sandblast it off. Wink Wink Those naughty spray-paint wielding hooligans! There is one I didn't do on the ISU campus of George Bush morphing into Hitler that I rather like, but lack the talent to replicate. The last cool one is in Des Moines, where someone changed Colonel Sanders on the KFC Sign to Hitler. Not making a coherent statement, but it was funny nonetheless!

Peace.

Maybe to you he (Big Pun) sucked, but not to the people from where I live.

Unfortunately, what you said is true though--being almost 700 lbs. isn't exactly considered fighting trim.

When i was little my dad used to drive me to school, and every day we would pass graffiti that simply said "sandanista!" this was during the early eighties. my dad, a big lefty, would tell me all about central america and US imperialism, and all that jazz. yes, i was indoctrinated from an early age! Wink
now, i'm going to nicaragua in a few months, and i can't help but think that graffiti planted the seeds for this trip.

Saw a beauty today when I was returning from Perth city by train. On the side of a very high wall, an extremely political statement in huge black letters:

'FUCK HOWARD....BUSH HAS!'

the best graffiti murals in nyc are in brooklyn. in my opinion. for the life of me i cant remember the crew, but its ALOT of 3d work, and the kids are very skilled at it.

twist(all over the us major cities and in some other countries) has long been one of my favorite bombers.

i liked a bit of advice that someone had thoughtfully inscribed in the stairwell of an apartment i lived in in russia. the advice was: "fuck it before it fucks you." my housemate and i took that to heart and used it on the rest of our trip as a daily inspiration (for instance, if you see that toilet paper at the metro station kiosk, buy it, because it won't necessarily be there the next time).

the stairwell of my berlin apartment last year also had some good graffiti (berlin in general is a great place for graffiti), including, "we arabs are awesome, german[s are] potatoes" and my personal favorite, "mothfucker".

I saw the best graffiti in a NYC subway car last month...

There was a advertisement poster hanging on the wall for some financial firm whose slogan is "Why do we work?" So the poster, which was all text, had this question on top with a nicely designed list of answers, NONE of which included "because we want to travel or live out our dreams, etc." No, the actual list contained items such as "because we have mortgages, need to save for colleges, we have car payments, etc."

So, using one of those bright metallic ink markers, someone writes, "I FUCKED YOUR MOTHER."

I rode the train, thinking it was the best thing I've ever seen.

My favorite graffiti, which sadly has been wiped clean, used to be on a wall in Berkeley, CA for many years. What was interesting about it was that you could see how it had changed over time.

I had never seen it when it was first written, when it said "Fags are everyhwere". When I first saw it, someone had spray-painted "fortunately" after it. Later, somebody added an "un" before fortunately. Finally, someone crossed out "Fags" and spray-painted "Cops" in its place.
