Its about time a travel novel in line with a 'The Beach II' was written.

I think we travel scholars can write it between us if we try.

Here's a start:

"What have I got myself into?" said Matty, intrepid traveler from Southend on Sea, as he stepped out of his back alley guest house in....

... Sydney.

He wanted a different holiday from all the other Lonely Planet Junkies with 75 liter packs and zippered travel trousers. He sought action. He sought a heaven sent exchange rate. Had he found it?

With only one change of clothes on his back and £300 in his money belt, he'd walked straight into his High Street travel agent, right up to Lana, a disillusioned Kiwi on the last legs of her working holiday, and booked the first £90 one way ticket to any Island destination.

"How's Sydney for ya, mate?"

Not exactly the off the beaten path hot spot he'd hoped for. He'd hoped for the Faroe Islands, somewhere off SE Asia, or even the Med.

He got Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Novia Scotia. Not exctly the Sydney he expected. Not exactly the Sydney he'd heard about. In fact, he was beginning to think that Lana was having a laugh at his expense.

He exhaled a plume of smoke put out his cigarette. He stepped back in the common room.

The other guest house kids were watching daytime television, talking about their flight to NYC and overlanding to Whistler to start working on the slopes. He passed by a young Danish girl who talked in hushed whipsers to her travel partner.

He heard the words...

Just another travel addict getting Out of dodge...
