After reading and seeing on telly the destruction by the tidal wave, including in a neighbouring vicinity... I just remembered this book - The Big Wave by Pearl S Buck. I read it while I was in school, but still remember it, it was amazing.

I wish there was a way to easily look into the books people recommend..not just an excerpt but the whole book.

So do I. But it is a tall wish. Perhaps the best we can do, when we post recommendations, is to provide a link to amazon.com where reviews etc would be available in addition to an extract.

did you know google has started a project to scan books and put them on the net...i think they are going to start with libraries first...
