Hi folks,

If you've read my work, you'll see that my writing style references a lot of American pop culture things.

I make it a point to keep current with my pop culture, so my jokes never get outdated. However, I question some of the classics, and wonder how many people remember:

-the TV public service announcment from the late 70s where a Native American is wandering around modern America and seeing how litter is everywhere. A tear rolls down his cheek.

Please tell me you remember this!

The crying American Indian commercial spots are etched in my memory -- I recently read that the actor who did that died.

I dont remember the actual spot, but I can say its been mentioned to the point of cliche!

Its right up there with "Badges we dont need no stinking badges!"

I was just going say what lunasol did! If the Simpsons spoofed it then you'll be fine to mention it as a popculture reference - I think the Simpsons is the one show that ties so many of us together in ways that things like literature and current events can't.

I'm with the others...if it was on "The Simpsons" then it is fair game.

I've nearly gotten to the point where I can't speak to non-Simpsons people because of the amount of references that I use without even realizing it. D'oh!

me too, it's kind of embarassing how often i hear myself saying "oh, that was like that episode of the simpsons." it's just such an amazing show: it just sort of digests the most important things in our culture and spits them back out as satire.
my brother and i have what we call "simpsons shorthand." it drives our parents insane...

I really do think that the Simpsons has done more for pop culture than any other show has! I also like watching it for the Canadiana references.

I also find it funny how some US politicans use Simpsons terms... "cheese-eating surrender monkeys"... I'm quite sure that Groundskeeper Willie called the French class that in one episode, and then there was a quote by an American politician in the newspapers during the whole Anti-French campaign using the same term.

Insanity I tell you!
