Hi All,

I have some travel stories that I want to publish in print (my first time doing this!) I am thinking of beginning with newspapers, but I am not sure which ones have travelogue/ travel-guide-ish sections.

Can people suggestion newspapers in US (or anywhere else, but in English!) that I can send my stories to? I am thinking of a funny travel experience piece. Any further information (such as contact email/address, word limit, submission guidelines that will save me some bit of googling will be appreciated as well!)

Many thanks,
Arvind

Try some of those glossy travel magazines as well. You might have luck with them too. You could also look in the back/advertising section of those same magazines and maybe find something there, you never know. Smile

Hi Arvind

Before you leap into sending your article to a print publication, it is essential that you are well versed with its style. Besides, print publications, especially newspaper are flooded with articles sent by their readers.

It is tough to get in, in a newspaper, unless such articles are being solicited by the editors.

For example: New York Times does have a travel section. But you article would be one among a million that they receive everyday.

If you search this thread you will come across someone who struck lucky with a newspaper, because they were seeking articles from their readers.

To begin with you must scout for such opportunities. Also go to www.writtenroad.com Jen posts market leads as often as she can. It is part of the blogs on this website.

Good luck.

Hey Dusty,

Thanks for the update. I agree -- the big ones (like NYT, etc) get a lot of entries, and so getting through them, atleast for starters, should be very difficult.

I noticed that you from Bangalore/India. Do you know of any Indian newspapers or even travel mags? I mailed "Indian Express" and "Outlook travel" once, and those creatures didn't even get back to me!

same rule applies to these indian mags and newspapers also. Outlook traveller has its own staff. Freelance articles are accepted only from "famous personalities". It is a tough world out there

If you've got some travel narratives, check out

http://www.travelerstales.com

and click "Submit A Story." They're always looking for something.

Also,

http://www.writtenroad.com

lists travel writing markets galore.

And

http://www.insideoutmag.com

is another place to submit stories, tips, etc.

And you could always post a story on BootsnAll!

Good luck!
