I've written a few travel stories and they were decent, but i'm starting to feel like i need some outside guidance if i'm going to get any better.

To that end, I was thinking about taking a writing class this fall in New York, where I'll be. Surprisingly, I'm having trouble finding a place. I looked at the Gotham Writers' Workshop, but those classes are way beyond my means ($300+ for a ten week class).

Can anybody reccomend a good place in New York - maybe a community education center or something?

and check out these magazines: The Writer, Writer's Digest, and maybe even Editor & Publisher. These have websites but I can't remember them......and maybe www.mediabistro.com .....I don't really know if these will help but it's worth a shot.

Haven't you noticed--everything is expensive here!

i did take some writing classes several years ago, and frankly, although I was happy enough initially i did feel a bit ripped off by the end.

how about starting a writer's group? I'd be up for it....`

a writer's group would be great...except i ended up not moving to new york. :-(
but i'm sure you could find people who want to form one. good luck!
