I bought a quickpad a while back, awesome little machine... BUT the dam thing required a PS2 (Old Keyboard) plug to connect to a computer.

Nowadays however, any new computer will not come with on of these (they use usb instead).. my new laptop didnt. So I am stuck now with a quickpad that wont transfer to a computer.

I am about to buy a alphasmart 3000 which has a usb plug... but I'm pretty bummed I had to retry a ton of stuff since the quickpad couldnt sync with the new computer.

Can't you just get a USB to PS/2 adaptor? I doubt they still sell these, but the last computer I bought was from the in between stage (the motherboard still had a PS/2 plug, but it came with a USB keyboard) and came with one, so I know they exist. You might want to try a used parts store.

Actually I bought one, but it didnt work!

Really Odd. I tried on both my laptops and the thing wouldnt work.

I think the way it converts from PS2 to USB doesnt work will with the signals from the quickpad...

Are there any other brands besides quickpad/alphamart that you would recommend instead? Is there anyone else making these types of products, with about equal quality?

Nomadic,

Here in Bali I've been using my AlphaSmart and find it super useful with its fast start up ( just press 'ON') and 8 memories.

Mine doesn't have USB port adaptor but neither does most of internet cafes over here. Consider this when coming to less developed places.

The manufacture really should make the machine 'everything compatible' if that's possible (my adaptor had 3 different heads, but no USB ).
