Firefox 2.0 is here. Download it and install it. Please!

Why do I care?

Is it because I hate Microsoft? No! (though I do hate Microsoft)

Is it because I want you all to take advantage of the best web browser on the planet? No! (though it really is the best)

The reason that I care is because it has an automatic spell checker and, believe it or not, all of the spelling around here is atrocious! It pains me to read some of the posts.

Where did y'all go to school? Minsk?

Please! Do it for those of us who have to read your posts.

Upgrade today! To do so, start by clicking here.

Ever consider that the spelling here might just be a form of artistic expression?

What kind of spell checker is it though? If it's an American spellchecker it'll try and remove all of my pointless, but very British, U's in words like colour, honour and neighbour.

Also it won't recognise some of my favourite Welsh words that are creeping into the English language (Wenglish) in this part of the world - words like Cwtch (to cuddle, small space, move up eg "cwtch over") and iawn (ok, alright)

Language is not static, it evolves and new words are created every day - spellcheckers are the equivalent of your conservative grandma who doesn't like change and still has a black and white TV.

Spellcheckers suck, but so do English language lessons, and one or the other is necessary I 'spose.

Just clicked on Static's link: it seems to have a British English spellchecker (that's a first!)

I think spellcheckers are a necessary evil. The keyboard I'm using is quite sticky and as a result, double-o's and spaces often don't type. For some reason (new desk?) I'm also omitting a lot of letters lately. Also, the American default spellchecker on WinEdt is quite useful for typing manuscripts for the American market. The text is dotted with multi-coloured underlined names and neologisms, but at least I look at what I've typed.

I give Firefox a try. Smile

I've downloaded it, and then I loaded up the text editor for my favorite forums, which got lost when I switched from IE 6.0

IE has so many virus holes that they're issuing fixes like some leaky boats bail water.

The tabs are pretty cool as well.

I got editing on this one as well.

i'm liking the spell checker! now if we can only get a grammar checker, so when I type "the" instead of "then" it'll catch that -- of course that probably wouldn't ever let gonorth post again.

And hear I am on Firefox. Interesting . That is a good feature. Straight spell check though. Not context oriented, I see.

WAIT A SECOND!

It corrected my former post! The one that I purposely misspelled on IE! VERY INTERESTING. That's weird.

I can't seem to get Firefox to work in South Africa... it's way slower than IE. Anyone have any clue as to why?

I don't think so. It automatically downloads the local version based on where you're downloading it from, but, as there's no Canadian version, I had to specifically download the Canadian English dictionary as an extension.

Though I notice that somehow, the word Firefox isn't in that dictionary.

you meant not in the Canadian dictionary? It's in my US version, but only Capitalized.

I have noticed that some of my pals are slipping in their spelling. Please please download Firefox and use it!

It will make you seem smart like skobb.

And for the adventurous, Firefox 3b4 is here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

Be warned that this is a beta version of Firefox 3, some things may not work, and most of your extensions are probably toast in the new version.

Still, it's shiny and new.
