We are looking for a talented travel writer interested in becoming a (somewhat paid) blogger, someone who would rather jump onto a moving train rather than taking a year to build up traffic and establish an online presence. Perceptive Travel is an award-winning site featuring quality travel narratives from published book authors, as well as regular travel book and world music reviews. Traffic increases each month and readers are engaged, but for a variety of reasons we are looking for someone who can post regularly on an attached blog. Because...

1) Since we only publish bi-monthly, there are long stretches with no new content.

2) We get far more review requests for books and music than we will ever have room to feature.

3) There's a lot of great writing on the web from other sources and we would like to bring attention to it now and then.

4) We want to promote our contests and promotions beyond just a static posting on the home page.

5) It would be nice to point out new projects from writers that have contributed to Perceptive Travel: new books, TV appearances, notable articles, or classes, for instance.

What's in it for you? If there's one blogger, 50% of all ad revenue generated by the blog. If there are two bloggers, then 33%. This revenue will be next to nothing at first, weekly beer money after a while, then something more substantial after subscriber traffic and search engine hits increase. If the blog is successful, you will be successful and obviously you can plug any projects of your own, which means a nice SEO link. In addition, blogger(s) will receive a shower of travel books and world music to review and the perks could go beyond that if it's doing well.

What we are looking for: a savvy, worldly-wise, cultured reporter who can speak with authority on music, movies, literature, and travel. A Renaissance man or woman who is witty without being annoying and smart without being a showoff. Someone whose irony meter is functioning well, but who can praise really good work without a fleck of cynicism. If you subscribe to 20 magazines and have 30 feeds on your RSS reader, plus a stack of books on your nightstand, you're our kind of guy/gal. If you can then spill out this knowledge and commentary 3 times a week for the first month and 5 times a week thereafter, we need to talk.

First, go read through the site. Then send two paragraphs on why you're the right person for this, including your credentials and what motivation you have besides money, to editor [at} perceptivetravel.com. If you have a portfolio link with your past work, we'd like to see it. (If you don't have an existing body of work to point to, this is not your gig.)

If you would like to start blogging but this isn't the right forum for you, note that Rolf's Vagablogging site is looking for writers as well. Post below on this board, details here.
