Every day I feel like I may be getting one tiny step closer to paid publication. I received my first rejection from an agent today and it's given me nothing but encouragement. I wanted to share my wonderful rejection with someone and thought members of BNA would appreciate my elated response.

"I enjoyed the read but unfortunately I'm not enthusiastic enough to offer representation. My passing speaks nothing of the value and merit of your work - another agent will likely feel different. Given all the hard work you've done already, and all that lies ahead on journey from manuscript to bookstore, you deserve to be with an agent with sufficient passion for your work. I wish you all the best..."

Okay, maybe it is a polite, standard rejection but just the fact someone didn't say "give up, you're crap" only makes me want to improve my writing skills more. Thanks for letting me share.

What a lovely P.F.O. - seriously. I'd love to be rejected with such sensitivity.

Writers are funny people. One good rejection and we keep on going.

I have been rejected for my novel from agents and know the form letter (such as that) and the encouraging letters (which are the ones we hang on to). I dont think I've ever had anyone tell me anything mean, so keep on writing.
