I was wondering if anyome here has ever tried the AWAI course
"Passport to Romance: The Ultimate Travel Writer's Course"?
I have searched through many writing boards and some people seem to think the courses from AWAI are pretty solid.
Has anyone heard anything of this course?

I thought about it for a while, too. Yes, expensive, but you only have one life to live, so look at it that way.

I not only bought the AWAI Travel Writing Course, but about 6-7 other courses from AWAI... as well as many other books on copywriting, marketing, advertising, travel, etc.

And I put in 3-4 years of very hard work and study and totally dedicated myself to learning the material in the courses.

Was it worth it? Put it this way:

In the past 3 years, I've been to the Fiesta de San Fermin in Pamplona (Running of the Bulls) twice, Oktoberfest in Munich 3 times, Hogmanay in Edinburgh, Scotland, and 7 Full Moon Parties in Koh Phangan, Thailand, where I live now. And I'm making more money than ever before. But please, please, please, don't get me wrong here.

I became OBSESSED with this stuff and basically locked myself in my room in Hawaii - abandoned 99% of my social life, and absolutely devoured this stuff - like I said - for 3-4 years until I had the balls to go after big clients.

You'll get out of it what you put into it. If you think it'll come easy, you're not gonna get it. But if you want it bad enough, and you make the dead-set serious commitment to learning as much as you can, starting with small clients, and working your way up to the big fish, and having lots of patience and faith and belief in yourself, trust me, the opportunity is there. And I can't even tell you how nice it is to live like this now, after putting in all that work.

I think it's an excellent course - both for beginners and not so beginners. I bought the course and followed it on my own (my bad). I didn't use their facilities or feedback or anything... but I learned a lot. I've been a writer for years but travel writing was a new genre for me and broke a lot of the rules I'd practiced over the years.

I thought it was expensive too until I started looking at other offerings - which charged more for less.

I agree with Jason though - you'll have to work at it. You can get there, but it's not a get-rich-quick scheme. But if you love to travel and love to write (that's my case) then you might as well get all the chances on your side...
