I didn't know my weird habit had a name! I've been keeping separate files for website "you've inspired me" kudos, "you have a way with words" writing kudos, and even "I'll miss you when you're on the other side of the world because you've done this for me" compliments for a while. I thought it was my own quirk and enjoyment in being able to hang onto the sentiments that really mean something to me.

And you know, I've never once gone back to actually read what I've collected a second time. I think there's something in the act of recording them, making them more memorable, and when you have doubts about your impression on the world, you know the list is there. Smile

I'd definitely encourage others to do it.

except - DON'T throw out those rejection letters! they could be worth something someday!

My husband originally produced his play, Urinetown, in the NYC Fringe festival because no 'real' theater - including the one we were ensemble members of for over a decade - would touch it with a ten foot pole. When it went to Broadway, and he won Tony awards for it, he took great glee in citing a rejection letter from an artistic director who took a little extra time to scrawl "This sounds like a truly dreadful idea" onto the standard formal reply.
