Just popping in to see if anyone is interested in crossing (or trying to) the Darien Gap by foot this November? If anyone's is in the area, or will be and wants to come along let me know. It's going to be a hard one and you'll need to speak some spanish, but it shouldn't take much more than a week (probably less). I won't hold my breath for a response, but it's worth throwing out there...

While artfully dodging FARC and the ELN actually sounds entertaining at the moment, my left ankle would probably start protesting somewhere around Los Katios. (Easily injured and admittedly grumpy old man that I am becoming.)

Nevertheless, good luck and stay safe.

I highly advise checking out the book "Dangerous Places" by Robert Young Pelton. His website is www.comebackalive.com and runs a forum there (Black Flag Cafe) with a lot of up to date info on the gap and safety. Have a great trip!

When it comes to tips on how not to get kidnapped when hiking the Gap you really don't want to ask Pelton. Big Grin

November has come and gone and yet there is no word from Bear on this thread. Did he make it?

If he's missing, let me be the first to say that I'm not going into the DG to look for him.

Hope you made it Bear!

i´m alive, i´m alive.

didn´t make it though. gutting! anyway, was stopped 13 times by the police (more like army) and the last time they told us if we went any further we would be arrested and deported! i was depressed for about a week after that. then i got to columbia and was happy right away. the columbian side is where i´ll have to start next time, but i will get arrested on arrival in panama. not worth it yet, having immigration problems in england with my girlfriend, don´t need an arrest or deportation on my recored!

Wow! That sounds amazing (if a bit disappointing.)

Have you posted blog entries, stories or photos about the trip anywhere? I'd love to hear more about your journey.

Glad to hear that we don't have to drum up a ransom for ya. Way to give it a go. Crazy, but an admirable effort.

Not planning a trip there myself or anything (not in the near future anyway, so I don't really have specific questions. It just sounded like a great adventure that'd be fun to hear a bit more about Smile
