Has anyone researched/completed a walking tour of Ireland? There seems to be one path that runs from Coast to coast. I'm looking into this for fall 2005 or Spring 2006.

You can't change what you never begin.

i never walked completly around ireland or from coast to coast, but I've done the western way, the bangor trail and the burren way. My favourite was the bangor trail. The signs along the way are most of the time very good, but you can buy a small book with maps of every route... and sometimes they're very useful because it's always possible a sign is missing. We walked in july 2004 and it was not very crowded. Somedays we only saw 3 or 5 other people walking along the paths. We were camping all the time and hitchhiking the parts were we had to walk long distances on big asphalt or concrete roads. I would definitaly reccomended walking in Ireland, it's really nice. I'd say the weather is pretty unpredicatble. I was there in july, and we had one week of perfect (but not too hot) summer weather, and one week of almost constant rain.

I've been back for two days after a little over a month in Ireland. I didn't "walk" ireland, but I did hitchhike to get around and a lot of times I'd end up walking 10 or 12 miles before I got picked up.

Two areas I'd recommend walking in are Connemara and Kerry. I did more walking than riding in connemara and it was very beautiful. Killarney National Park was even more beautiful.

As for the weather, I was cold and wet most of the time. Sun for five minutes, rain for ten minutes, ten minutes of 50mph winds, a sudden hailstorm, then back to sunny and bright. You get used to it. Smile

I've got about 200+ pictures up at www.coladirienza.com

My dad did this. North to south. Straight through ireland. It took about a week to complete.

I never attempted it myself, not fit enough, lol. But he is very fit. It should be fun.
