Began Gap Year Trip Six Years Ago |
alright so the everest base camp thread has been floating around, but now i'm interested in hearing about the K2 base camp! i hear that K2, though not as high as everest, is much more dangerous than everest. does the K2 base camp reflect this with the vibe there, or perhaps with stories of success and failure from people coming back down from the mountain? do treks to this BC operate the same way as they do in nepal? costs, accommodations, porter/guide recommendations? anything? anything??
cmon let's hear it! what have you got? . . . Freedom lies in being bold. |

I know this one's old, but in case you where still wondering. There are no tea houses on the K-2 B.C. trek (unlike Everest), but it's pretty easy, with the exception of Gondogoro La. You have to do it as an organized tour, meaning you'll (or someone in your group) have to go to Islamabad and meet with the head dude for the board of tourism, get a permit from him and then get a lisenced guide and porters(actually, before you go to Islamabad).
Hanging out at base camp or even concordia (a couple hours before B.C.) is pretty cool. You'll meet some cool people with killer stories. I met some dude Jack Schroder (spl?) up there, he's the head of some department for National Geographic. He's a cool old dude and there was an international team there with him. I talked for hours with all of them and got to eat killer food and drinks, while in a warm comfy tent. I wrote a bit about it (K-2)in my blog, check it if you're curious... bear, i read your K2 blog a while ago.
i'm still planning on doing this, and the everest BC camp, but i keep bumping the date back farther and farther. i'm planning to go back to kilimanjaro this december, and depending on my job situation, i'll be doing the indian subcontinent and some of the stans in either two years or, if i've found a good research tech job, then could be four or five years. . . . G;day mate'
K2 Trek is a great adventure less tourist than everest much cleanet. 2 routes for K2 BC. one is to the base and same way back the other one is circle Trek over Gandogoro la 5500 m High. i really recomend you. there are no tea houses along the way you have to go through a Trekking agency not to exp cheaper and round trip will take about 3 weeks. Cheers Iman from K2 BC |
