Hi All - There are a group of us at BootsnAll thinking about getting a bunch of members together for some adventure trip this next year, maybe some desert hiking in Africa, or a safari, or maybe a long river trip. Anyone have any ideas of places, or would be interested in this trip?

next year...you mean 06 or 05? Any month in particular...which affects the season of course.

Rafting the Zambezi? Though maybe this is a bit too dangerous.

A river trip to Timbuktu?

Namibia/Botswana safari trip?

Greenland dog sledging?

Trans-Siberian by rail with stops and exploration going DEEP into the heart of Russ-ky (Like the NE region) - Yakutia province.

Dragoman trips through the Sudan? - or is this supposed to be totally independent?

Multi-day kayak off Kauai?

Coastal Brazil trip with a dive option to Fernando de Noronha Islands.

Camel trek to Petra?

I know someone able to guide a group of 5-15 people on a kayaking trip down the Orinoco to the mouth of the river basin in Venezuela.

It takes 10 days, and would cost about 400 dollars. It can be done by 16-20 year old high school students, so anyone in reasonable shape can do it.

Its a river trip that can't be done without a specialised group. I know, I asked everyone I ment about this trip, and one person finally confirmed my suspicions.

donovan, i know you've heard me whine about libya enough so all i'll say is that if there's gonna be one, and my bank account just happens to have something in it, then sign me up! Wink

also it'd be kind of cool to see zimbabwe, madagascar, mozambique, up to ethiopia and kenya.

hmm and what about antarctica? that's not near the top of my list, but it's something i'd consider doing. i know some other people have been asking about it too.

I would be interested depending on activity/destination, duration, cost, dates, etc.

As far as activities are concerned, I'd mainly be interested in hiking. A long camel trek doesn't appeal to me at all, a horse trek would but I have very little experience with riding horses, so it would have to be at absolute beginner-level. The same goes for rafting, rock-climbing, kayaking, snow-boarding, etc. Depending on the destination a cycling trip could be nice too. I wouldn't really be interested in a safari, at least not if it was all we were going to do.

Destinations I would be especially interested in:
- Lake Yssyk-Köl , Kyrgyzstan (sp?)
- Greenland
- Lybia
- Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
- Mt. Olympos, Greece
- Altai mountains, Russia/Kazakhstan/China/Mongolia
- far north of Vietnam
- Brazilian rainforest/Amazon river
- jungle trek on Borneo
- Malawi
- Madagaskar

We were playing with the idea of getting a huge crew of BootsnAll members together to summitt Kilimanjaro on New Years 2006 and then afterwards doing a safari through the Serengetti. I used to live in Tanzania, so it's my background and easy to organize and do, but I would be open for other ideas as well, or even doing a group trip this summer.

I would like at least 15 people.

Thoughts?

If I have enough time and money, I'd definitely be up for that.

I am glad there is a lot of interest. We could do both a summer trip and a New Years 2006. Listen everyone, this would be an epic trip. I know Kilimanjaro, and all the hidden villages like the back of my hand. We could get a bunch of BnA members, and have a huge climb to the top, and then I could plan an epic safari out in the bush - the best places to watch the wildebeast migration.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? My heart skipped a beat! Smile I'm so up for it. I think being in NY I have friend coming out over New Year, but I could do the summer trip. Even though New Year on Kilimanjaro would be beyond words. Please, Please, Please try and organize this.

Wow, Don... we were just talkin about this huh.

I would SO love to do a Tanzania trip. What kind of cost and time frame are we talking? Time off work for me is the biggest issue. Are you talking about the beginning of the trip starting with New Years or more towards the end? My vacation time doesn't roll over unfortunately so I have to wait till the new year to get a lot of time.

Donovan,

I'm glad that you mentioned a summer trip, as I'm sure a lot of us would be just about to go back to school around New Year's. Would the summer trip also be to Tanzania?

It's not very likely I'd be able to make it for the summer trip. But I'm not ruling it out entirely.

Donovan,
You know that I am SO Down for a trip to Tanzania, September or New Years. My paychecks are totally going into my Travelfund.

I think Adventure trips with BnA Members would Rock and that is a great idea.

You should do a rock climbing trip. (But make sure amatuers would be able to particpate)

Thanks for giving me a goal to work for!

Did I hear rock climbing?!? Smile I'm not one to lead climb and set up the ropes, but I can teach and give advice. Plus I have a nice 'beaner and an ATC.

Tanzania would be lovely.
