I just ran across this article that New Zealand is the best adventure destination.

What do all of you think?

New Zealand is a great adventure destination...but expensive!

I haven't been enough places to be able to judge, but I'd guess that there are better adventure destinations. Or that the Irish surveyed need to extend their travelling horizons Wink

Yes, I thought it was funny that the Irish Tourism Commission made that statement - kind of random. I didn't realize how expensive New Zealand was. Thansk for your insight.

Don't forget that adventure travelers in NZ are covered by government health insurance. For seriously. The surgery after your crazy mountain climbing adventure/accident is covered by the generous NZ taxpayer ... fingers x'ed

it's hard to rival the sheer awesomeness of new zealand as a whole. in terms of adventure activities, there is a veritable wealth in NZ. everyone should go at least once Smile

Like Slip was saying... it's hard to beat for All-Around Adventure. It wouldn't be my first choice (because my first choice for adventure would be surfing), but if I wanted an array of activities, it's hard to beat I think.

Being a New Zealander I feel compelled to reply.

This country has many things to offer for a wide range of interests of all ages and abilities.

From surfing in Raglan (in the top 10 surfing), Bungy jumping in multiple cities (Taupo being my favorite) or the Reverse bungy in central Wellington, Skiing at Turoa or extreme skiing at the Remarkables in the South Island, Jet boating that will scare the bejesus out of you or the Fly By Wire, where you fly a air plane type thing in circles or you always just do the good old Kiwi tradition of drinking one self stupid in one of many destinations.

Previous replies have mentioned activies as Zorbs etc etc These sort of activities are almost everyday life.

With vast forests and concrete your sure to find the adventure in which you desire.

AND!!!! Yes, if you have an accident while in NZ. The Taxpayers foot the bill for the immediate cost of treatment. However future treatment or disability would not be. I am in the medical profession in NZ.

I went to NZ for a 2 week snowboarding trip with mates. The best two weeks of my life.

Snow wasn't that good (worst season they've had in years! F@#K!)

But there was sooo much more to do. Did 3 bungy jumps, monster truck driving, shotover jet, 2 weeks snow boarding, areobatic flight, sky diving, giant swing thing... All in just one town, 'Queenstown' (really popular town for tourist and stuff, heaps of fun). And thats only half of what you can do.

Yeah it's expensive but its worth it.

I advise doing the thtrillogoy. It's all three bungy jumps buliding up in height till you get to the "Nevis". This thing is the biggest in the southern hemsphere. Two cables coming from a mountain on each side, holding up a cable car in the middle. Thats what you jump off. Almost pissed myself. The most fun you can have in 30 secs. That and skydiving, also HIGHLY recomend doing that. And I hate heights.
