I posted this in the South America forum, but thought maybe someone here had a few tips or wanted to come along...
I'm looking for recommendations or suggestions for a trip into the Amazon in Ecuador. I want to avoid hotels and lodges and am all for camping. Any recommendations on guides? I'm much more interested in experiencing the wildlife, and kayaking/canoeing the river would be the best. Time isn't really an issue, but money is. I am a female traveling alone at the moment, but if anyone will be in the area and is interested, I will definately welcome the company! Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh yes, I should probably mention that I will be in Ecuador early to mid June '06.

I took a trip into cuyabeno (i think that was it, shoot) it's the rainforest reserve in northeastern ecuador through a company called pais verde. It was absolutely awesome. It did however involve staying in a lodge(well elevated grass hut deals with some plumbing). I think the company did have some more intense stuff that was with camping though. Our guide, Luis, was fantastic, and he did work a trip that involves being flown into the southern rainforest in ecuador, and canoeing the river to the country border and back. It supposed to be pretty wild as well as rustic.

If you're in quito, pais verde's office is in gringolandia, right down the street from papaya net.
