I thought everyone might want to see USA Today's top pics for bargain adventure travel. They profile the best deals from Thailand, to New Zealand, to Egypt.

Read USA Today's Adventure Article

Any thoughts on this?

$2300 plus airfare for a trip to Everest Base Camp? That doesn't sound like such a bargain to me. I'll be doing it on my own, and probably not spend near as much.

Seems like all of these are package tours, and probably aren't that interesting for those of us who like to do things on our own.

Yes, the $2300 seemed a bit much. You are right - some of these trips you can do on your own, but some, like Kilimanjaro or Macchu Picchu require a local guide.

This article is also catering to the average joe reading USA Today.

Actually, the one deal for Kili didn't seem too bad, but that's my unexperienced opinion. I camped out in your Tanzania room at BnA Headquarters, so I know you'd have a lot better handle one the prices for a trip up Kili would cost.

And can't Macchu Picchu be done without guides? Isn't it just a hike in? The Globe Trekker episode on this made it look like a person wouldn't need too much help.

Macchu Picchu requires guides now, as per new govt law.

That's probably for the best. I'm sure it was getting overrun by visitors.

Scuba diving in Thailand is a great deal as far as awesome diving goes. Don't know if there are many other SCUBA divers around.
