hi all,

i'm heading to alaska in a couple of days to stay with friends in sitka and skagway - woo hoo!

a few questions i could use some help with before i take off (i posted this in the north america forum as well but thought i might have more luck here...): first, my flight arrives in juneau at midnight and i'm planning to hop on the 8 am ferry the next morning. if i take a cab to the ferry terminal from the airport, can i sleep there for a few hours until i board my ferry, or will it be closed/unsafe for a single female traveler? if crashing there isn't an option, any recommendations for a cheap place to camp or sleep for a few hours near the airport or ferry terminal?

second, as i said, i'm staying with friends in sitka and skagway while i'm there, but i may have a week or more towards the end of july without plans/accomodations. do you know of any good companies that organize trips to cool places in se alaska? i'm looking for places/groups that will be a)outdoor adventure type trips (backpacking, kayaking, glacier climbing, etc), b)off the beaten path (or at least not completely crawling with cruise ship passengers), and c)at least relatively reasonably priced.

or is there anyone out there who wants to try to meet up and do some backpacking during the last week of july? i'll have most of the necessary gear.

hey there! A friend of mine runs an eco-friendly kayaking company called All Points Guiding. They run a few kayaking trips, but I'm sure you can do a custom trip as well. I haven't done any trips with them, but I did Victor was one of my kayaking guides in Belize about 5 years ago, and I can vouch for him. He's a great guy and knows SE Alaska well.
