A buried treasure, a forgotten ruin, a roman galley, an ancient tomb, a subterranean cavern, cave paintings in the Sahara, an ancient evil buried for centuries - I don't care.
I just want to find something lost to the world.
I've got to start hanging out with explorers more.

And I want to form a club of explorer philosophers who meet for adventures. And maybe have a club full of antiquities, oddities and big leather chairs.

On my swim every morning, I explore the Inner Reef for treasure (black pearl necklace), ruin (old Hawaiian sacrifical altars), roman galley (ancient Hawaiian war canoe), ancient tomb (the ocean burial of the great King Kamehemeha), subterranean cavern (tiger sharks' lair), cave paintings (brightly coloured patterns on coral), ancient evil (Captain Cook's remains from the Big Island massacre).

Antiquities and oddities for the club. A couple months ago, I found a puka shell necklace.

I'm going to be thinking jealously about your morning swim all weekend now. If you find a subterranean cavern which would make a good meeting point let me know :-)

i always have wanted to go on a treasure hunt. Is there a place where they plant fake stuff out in a jungle, then in a nearby town sell treasure maps. That would be pretty awsome. mabey even throw in some paintball booby traps. I think it would bring out the indiana jones in me tho

I think that's a great idea, philosopher. I don't know if that would come off as too cheesy to some people, but I could see it being done really well and being a lot of fun. Reminds me of a segment on Insomniac where they showed a group of guys, maybe in Albuquerque(?), who would hide a little radio beacon thing somewhere in the city or surrounding area. Then the other team would use their tracking software and spend the night searching for the thing. Kind of a nerdy extension of HAM radio, but looked fun.

You could always try geocaching. It's kind dorky, and I wanted to try it out a while back (tons of geocaching around my area) but I'm too cheap to buy a GPS.

just hop on a boat...

It seems to me that some of the most important people in the history of the world were just smart yet directionless kids who jumped on a boat and made it up from there.

Ho Chi Minh
Charles Darwin
Paul Gauguin
etc.

I sometimes feel like I was born in the wrong time or something....like I would have been a great explorer and I got jipped because almost everything is already found! Smile

I've always wanted to do something like that too...a hunt, explore, something...follow a trail of history. I'd be the first to hop on the trip if someone planned one!

Lol. No we'll go up to Iceland and go inside a volcano. I guess you didn't catch my Verne reference, although I thought "Journey to the Center of the Earth" was a fairly obvious give away Smile
