I have heard the region of Sikkim in India is being dubbed the new Nepal. Anybody have any experience with this region?
I have heard it's great for trekking, rafting, cycling and a host of other sports. Donovan |

Sikkim is awesome!!!! I was there in Sept. of 98. I flew into Delhi, then to Siliguri and took a shared taxi up to Darjeeling. I spent a week or so around Darjeeling, then headed up to Gantok. The weather was pretty hideous around that time. Lots of roads washed out, lots of rain (I only saw Kanchenjunga once, the weather cooperated for about 7 1/2 minutes one morning). So I didn't do alot of trekking or rafting, but I'm sure it would be pretty good!!I would go back a heartbeat!!!! I think Nepal is more set up for independant tea house treks, but I think there are a few hikes you can do around some of the monasteries. If I remember correctly there were quite a few travel agencies around Darjeeling and Gantok that can organise all sorts of adventure!!

I sent you an email, asking more about your experiences. I would love to get some more details.
