Hello,

For thesis i write about adventure tourism, and all i was able to find about the history of adventure travel/tourism, is one article by Richard Bangs, which is definelty not very objective and sufficent. I was wondering if perhaps someone knows for some other article about adventure tourism, and could perhaps adress me there.

Thanks in advance,

You're going to have to go a lot father back than Richard Bangs. Nineteenth century Brits like Sir Richard Burton (see avatar) are probably the first real "modern adventure travelers." You can go even farther back, but you're writing a thesis rather than a book.

Siwa, Egypt bills itself as the world's oldest travel destination. Alexander the Great went there in 331 BC to consult the Oracle of Amun. The oracle confirmed he was descended from the gods.

Siwa is near the Libyan border, an oasis with a population of about 17,000, its own language, and more donkeys than vehicles. The Temple of Amun is still visited regularly.
