Besides America with its huge whitewater, what are some other good countries or rivers for rafting that people would recommend?
I have always heard that Nepal, Costa Rica and Chile top the list. Any others? |

Yeah I have heard great things about the Nile too. I used to live on Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and loads of backpackers would stay at my hostel and then head off to raft the Nile. I never made it. Kind of wish I would have.

hi, I rafted at the source of the nile in uganda about a year ago & would highly recommend it....there are a good number of grade 5's so expect to be battered & bruised & swallow a serious amount of the river.
You need to head for Jinja, then to the campsite at Bujagali Falls...which is in a spectacular setting above the beginning of the rapids. The company that runs the trips is based at the campsite & is run by some south africans who seem experienced & know what theyre doing. Can't remember how much it was, but wasnt extortionate & was well worth it. |

Costa Rica goes from the Pacific beaches to 13,000 feet back down to the Caribbean in about 70 miles. The central mountains get over 20 inches of rain a month. There are dozens of world class runs and a bunch you can name if you can survive the first descent.

Zambezi.com reports:
"Classified by the British Canoe Union as Grade 5 - 'extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas.' This is a high volume, pool-drop river - little exposed rock either in the rapids or in the pools below the rapids. The Zambezi White Water Rafting is internationally acclaimed as being the wildest in the world." I've rafted it twice, and it kicks ass! |
