I'm not there right now, but I have visited. My feeling is, you should be concerned enough to avoid going near the gaza strip/egypt border, but you should definitly still go because something is always going to be going on there.

There's a lot of statistics out there that will show you that Israel is safer per capita than many small cities & suburbs in the U.S. (the most famous of which had it at some HUGE percentage safter than Savannah, Georgia). It's just that every thing that goes on there gets instant, worldwide, and often slanted one way or the other, media coverage.

I'd def. avoid the Gaza area, and the Egyptian border for now. But, I'd def. go...it's an absolutely amazing country for sure.

I understand your feeling of concern, Elderado. I have just got tickets to visit Israel in July and right after I made the commitment it seemed like things were heating up again. However, I am still very excited to go.

No place is entirely safe from danger. I hear the travel advisories other countries give for the US do not make our country look safe either.

Have a wonderful trip and may it be safe wherever in the world you travel.

I was in Israel/Palestine back in '06 when things got so bad they were evacuating Americans. I stayed. I never felt threatened, and was treated very hospitably by both Palestinians and Israelis alike. The worst thing that happened to me was that a little Palestinian boy threw a little rock at me for simply being American (and thus, involved in one way or another with the occupation), but I just kept a smile on my face and that was that.

You'll have a good time. Play it safe, be smart, keep a smile on your face, and enjoy one of the most interesting places in the world.

I was just recently in Israel and Sinai. I don't have a lot of time right now to write all the thoughts, but in summary - GO!! Israel was amazing. One of my favorite countries. If you want to avoid the problems, stay away from the Palestinian areas. Sorry, but it's true. If you want the WHOLE experience, then go to both, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the hot zone dots. Sinai was safe enough. Far from my favorite place in the world, but the Red Sea was amazing for diving and snorkeling. So go. That's my $0.02. Good luck and keep us posted on how things go.
