I am one of those guys who likes to cut up my guide books and only take the sections I need. The genious I am, I cut out the UAE section cuz I thought I wasnt going there. As always happens when you travel, plans change. Now I am going to the UAE and so I need to get some basic info about it, specifically Dubai.

I fly in to Sharjah on the 25th and plan to spend about 2 days in/around Dubai before heading to Kish Island. My first question is about transport:

a. What are the transport options from Sharjah airport to Dubai?

b. What about transport in Dubai: Are taxis cheap or is it better to use public transport?

c. How do I get to Kish Island (Iran) from the UAE? I know that you can fly, but I also heard you can take a ferry (from Dubai?) this sounds interesting to me. Anyone know about ferries to Kish Island?

My second question is about accomodation. I assume that hotels in Dubai are generally pricey. Are there any good budget options? Someone told me if I ask around the Gold Souk I can find something. Is this good advice?

My third question is what are the must-sees/must-dos in Dubai. I plan to check out the Gold Souk and the gigundus mall, as well as the beach and that crazy hotel. What else should I check out? How about the night life?

Any help at all with this would be much appreciated!

This might not answer all of your questions, but for starters, check out our UAE Travel Guide.

Hi,
taxi are very expencive and if you have international driving lisence, I will suggest to take a rental car.Hotels are pricy, but there are furnished apartments which are cheaper. The area arond Gold Souq is not good to stay.

Getting around Dubai is difficult at best. The roads are terrible and taxis pricey. Know where you want to go and plan travel before and after rush hours.
I have been to Dubai several times and just use it as a jumping off spot.
NIGHT LIFE: Alcohol is only served in hotel bars. Most (but not all) of the women in the bars are prostitutes....especially in the Cyclone and York Club. Try the Hard Rock Cafe.
