Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
Jordan is a small country and all the major attractions are only a few hours drive away. I was in Jordan for 10 days. Arrived in Aqaba; took a bus to Petra (4 nights); arranged for a daytrip to the Dead Sea and other sights; then on the way back to Aqaba, stopped in the Wadi Rum and stayed 2 days (arranged at the hotel in Petra); then back to Aqaba (beach and snorkeling). It was very relaxing.
Just figure out what you want to see and just go from there. Everything is pretty easy to arrange once you're there. |

Extra Pages in Passport |
A week's tight, so your going to have to cut something out that's deserving of a visit, but here's what I'd suggest:
- 2 days Petra - 1 day Jerash (an easy day trip from Amman) - 2 days Wadi Rum (arrange this in advance if you want an english speaking guide) - 2 days Dana Nature Reserve (beautiful historic village, good hiking, excellent scenery and a really neat garden) I'm thinking the beach can wait, and it could be a little nippy in November for beaches, even that far south. If you have 9 days (one week with 2 weekends), spend an extra day at Petra, and pick your pleasure for the 9th day. It is a small country, so travel times are mostly quite short, unless you get stuck waiting for the bus to fill up. (If someone guides you to a full-sized bus at a mini-bus station, ask around for a minibus to your destination...it could easily save you a few hours of sitting around. Taxi prices are also fairly reasonable, so with a tight schedule, it may not be a bad idea to splurge on private transportation for the shorter hops. Ask at your hotel, as they may have a driver that gives a better rate than a taxi would. |

I think the biggest problem with Jordan is definitly transportation. If you want to get some where faster, or on time, go with the Jett buses. I made the mistake of trying to save a few bucks and ended up on a mini bus that took double the time to get to Amman. I lost a whole day, which is a big deal when you only have a short trip.
