Hey everyone!
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure weather to put this in the Africa or Middle East section. Smile

Next month we're spending 3 months in India, then flying from Delhi to Cairo for a one month stay. Where and what we do after that depends entirely on how much money we have left. (We either continue through Europe, or fly straight home) So my question is this: Will the Egyptian authorities have any problems issuing us a visa (UK citizen) even though we have no return flight booked?

Thanks!
Ben

Official Egyptian policy is that you need to have a ticket out of the country booked. So there's always the chance you might have trouble.

However, we arrived with no such thing, and had no problems.

The visa itself is just an entry tax. You give them your $15 US (or €15 if you want to pay more) and they give you a sticker. Then you continue on to the immigration people who stamp the thing. They're the ones who actually decide if you're allowed in the country or not. I don't recall being asked any questions by them, either.

I'd suggest that if you do get asked for a return ticket, instead of giving a vague "haven't really decided yet," it's better to lie and say something along the lines of "we're leaving on the ferry to Jordan in four weeks," since immigration types like definite answers, and it's unverifiable. (Incidentally, this isn't a bad thing to turn into a truth, Jordan is much more fun than Egypt.)

Thanks for that! Still undecided on what we're going to do, perhaps something like a guidebook for Jordan and taking some ferry timetables should add some legitimacy to my story.

Dont worry about the onword ticket in Egypt. Its no big deal at all. I lived there for three years, came and went with one way tickets all the time and they never once even asked about it. And you should fully check out Egypt, its a way cool spot. Jordan is good as well, but only a limited ammount of stuff to do there really. But both are good, check them out! No need for a Jordan guide book if your not going, they really wont do anything at all. Forigners get away with pretty much anything over there, sad but true.
Enjoy

WharfRat or anyone - I'm planning to see Egypt & Jordan in May. Is the climate/temp bearable in this month? I've heard that sandstorms begin around April/May. Is this a problem for visiting pyramids and such? And what is the best method of transportation to Jordan (Petra) from Egypt?

Thanks!
